Southern Malaysia - Melaka

Pictures from Melaka, my first stop in Malaysia. It is reputed to be the centre of
Malaysian culture and history - Whatever that means.  Anyway, it has some interesting
architecture and good food.

St Peter's Church and matching clock tower in the town square

My trishaw driver, who thouroughly embarassed me
by turning his on-cycle beat box up full blast for
the duration of the ride

The Dutch's contribution to Melaka: Canals and a
Windmill

The Geographer Cafe - long since
closed, but still good for  an
eye-catching picture

The only remaining manufacturer of bound
feet shoes in the world, according to the
owner.

The sound and light show.  Unfortunately
this picture can't illustrate the full
dullness of this show, which according to the
Lonely Planet is "unmissable"  Scores of
tourists (well 8 on the night I went to be
exact) will flock to this 500 seater stadium
to watch a show of sound (someone banging
to coconuts together and narrating in a
pompous voice) and light (a few floodlights
lighting up nearby buildings and a tree) for a
butt and mind numbing hour and a half
